We recommend a gradual transition when changing your pet’s diet, to minimise the potential for digestive issues, and  to allow your pet’s digestive system time to adjust to the high nutritional value of our recipes. Start with a small amount of ZIWI Peak added to your pets’ current food then gradually increase the amount while reducing the other food over a period of at least 7 days. We have increased the amount of organ and superfood and included greater organ variety. Apple pomace is now used as a natural binder to reduce crumbling. Our recipes are still 96% meat, organs, bone, and green mussels, 100% sourced from New Zealand.

Our air-dried products use dual stage Z-TWINTECH™ air-drying technology, removing moisture and pathogens with the gentle movement of air, locking in the nutrition and taste of our raw ingredients and make a safe ready to serve food. Our freeze-drying technology removes pathogens via a non-thermal process called High Pressure Processing (HPP) then air-dried. Not all brands of freeze-dried products use HPP. We’ve opted for HPP because heat alters the taste and degrades the nutritional integrity of the ingredients. This ensures ZIWI Peak Freeze-dried products are the ultimate in taste and nutrition.

For our air-dried products we use a modern take on centuries old meat preserving techniques. Our dual stage Z-TWINTECH® technology removes pathogens with the movement of air.

Air-drying is substantially more gentle than other pet food preparation methods, such as extrusion or baking.

Our canned recipes use a retort method which means the core temperature reaches a level to kill pathogenic bacteria. The temperature is held for a short period of time necessary to meet all regulatory requirements to produce a safe, low acid canned food.

As part of our commitment to quality, we test all our products to ensure they are safe and free of harmful pathogenic bacteria, prior to them leaving our kitchens.

ZIWI Peak foods are formulated to meet the unique needs of each species therefore, we do not recommend feeding cats our dog recipes and vice versa.

 Peak is a natural food featuring high inclusions of meat and organs and excludes artificial fillers, dyes and preservatives. This, in combination with other natural factors such as age and seasonality of the ingredients we use, often results in variability of shape, size, colour, texture and odour. This variation is perfectly normal and is an indicator of how natural the food is.
